the 500w metal halide light and ballast will cost u more than $50, then u need a water tank and timers...it'll cost u about $250

I grew many house/garden plants Hydroponically using materials found around the house when I was a kid many moons ago. The only thing I had to purchase was the water soluble fertilizer. I often had over 50 plants in various stages of development (Cuttings, seeds, seedlings). (Jade plants, geraniums, etc.)

i will say that your choices as to what kind of system you want will be limited due to your 50.00 budget. A five gallon bucket, small aquarium pump, and a few other materials will do the trick. As far as what kind of system you use...this will depend on how many vegetables you are trying to grow at one time.
