Indoor garden lights – Hortilux bulb problem?

I have a 600 W Hortilux bulb, new. When I turn on the ballast, the bulb flickers a lot like it is going to turn on, but never does. Is this a problem with the bulb, the socket, the ballast or what? Thanks!

First thing you should do is check to see if the old bulb was the same as the new. (HPS or Metal Halide).

In general, ballasts will run only one type of bulb so if you switched from HPS to MH by mistake you will have problems.

If the old bulb ignited okay, it is most likely the bulb that is the problem. You should take the bulb back to the store and ask them to test it in one of their ballasts. But I suspect that it’s a problem with the type of bulb you bought since most ballasts will last for years without problems.

Hid lights tend to do that when they are about do die. I would take it back to the shop and have them replace it.
