		<description>1) I do not think it requires a particular direction, because whatever the direction, ultimately the shoot will direct towards the sunlight, and the roots will always look for water, which is going down, in most cases.

2) Depends on how long your vacation is. If there is no stated time period, just roughly draw a shoot crawling up the windowsill, and the root crawls toward the closest water source.
