It’s inconsistent to argue that marijuana should be legal and taxed. If it really is an individual’s own rightful decision to consume what he or she wants, why would they need a license to put a plant in their windowsill or garden? Would you really want the IRS or other Treasury agents inspecting your house and yard for untaxed marijuana plants?
The whole legalization battle uses taxes as a reason is hilarious. See, even if the state did go legal, they are not going to be able to grow better than whats out there.

Uh well…I suppose it would work like cigs…just tax it when you purchase it. I mean, people don’t get taxed for growing tomatoes and home but they do if they buy them at the store.

The only way weed will ever get legal is if it is heavily taxed.

And what "can" you buy in the US without paying taxes? Virtually nothing.

You’re talking about 2 different things: buying vs. growing.
Buying ‘pot’ in a store would be taxed, like gasoline, cigarettes and other sales-taxed items. That’s called a ‘consumption tax’ or a ’sin’ tax.
Growing-your-own is different: if you have the seeds, it would probably be legal to grow-your-own. But, if you had to buy the seeds, since most pot is ’sinsemilla" (from the Spanish ’sin semilla’ = ‘without seeds’) here might be a tax on the seeds, like there is on most seeds, plants, trees, etc.
